Weekly Musings: Follow whose heart?

Everywhere I turn, kids these days are being told to 'follow your heart.' Each new Disney princess flick that booms in theaters, every young women's magazine says that they need to follow their 'true selves.' The transgender youth, supported by the LGBT cause, are being told that natural biology means nothing, that spiritual holiness doesn't matter, as long as you 'follow your heart.'

This hogwash has my red flags flapping in the breeze. I think we're putting way too much attention on ourselves. In fact, listen to what scripture has to say about following your heart:

For from the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, unchastity, theft, false witness, blasphemy. -Matthew 15:19

This is not to say that the heart is entirely evil, but yes, the heart is capable of sowing seeds of intrinsic evils. If the heart is not to be trusted, why would we tell the most vulnerable among us to follow their hearts? If you feed someone poison long enough, eventually they will die. Sadly, our hearts as a nation are dead, with unbelievable divorce rates of fifty percent, due to the evils of the heart listed above.

How do we combat this? By changing 'follow your heart' to 'follow His heart.' Out of His heart comes nothing vile, no sin, but forgiveness, generosity and love. Following after God's heart, trying to be like him in all we do, that is true greatness. When we choose him every day, only then can we be truly happy. Happily ever after.

"Hear, my son, and receive my words, and the years of your life shall be many. On the way of wisdom I direct you, I lead you on straight paths. When you walk, your step will not be impeded, and should you run, you will not stumble."
-Proverbs 4:14

  1. Great Post! It's sad how Disney is ruining our society by poisoning the youth.
